(state school Mascautii)
In February 2005 we visited, together with representatives of the Moldovan 'Fundatia Alianta Prosperarii', a school in the village of Mascautii in Moldova
Impression:
This was the condition of the toilet facilities. The toilets were situated at a distances of 100 meters from the school building. There was no running water and no sewage system. As the hygienic situation was bad the children were often ill.
After visiting the toilet the children have to clean their shoes before re-entering the school building.

The central heating is broken. That is why the children are dressed so warmly. Also during gymnastics...

In the classrooms the children have to keep coats and hats on in order to keep relatively warm...
In March 2005 offers were invited for the installation of clean, new toilet facilities inside the school building. For the water supply a new pump will have to be installed, together with a new sewage system.
After realising the new toilet facilities we shall try to get the heating system repaired.

Almaty - Kazachstan Children’Äôs Hospital Aksai.
In this state hospital in the previous capital of Kazachstan, better known as Alma Ata, we find children with disorders in the central nervous system.
Impression:
The doctors are competent enough but they lack the financial means to treat he children adequately. Together with the hospital management a list was drawn up for more clean, new beds, orthopaedic mattresses, massage tables, so- called 'cosmonaut suits', equipment for laser- and magnet therapies and a 'dry pool' filled with thousands of plastic balls, for the department of physiotherapy.

Apart from fund raising for medical equipment, one of our first actions was collecting teddy bears and other toys...

In August 2003 two cosmonaut suits were bought for the physiotherapy department. These suits are essential in the rehabilitation of the children.

In November 2003 enough money was raised to have a 'dry pool' installed.

In May 2004 enquiries were made for the production and purchase of 80 hospital beds and orthopaedic mattresses. Moreover 80 bedside tables and 10 high chairs were ordered.

In July 2004 ultra-sound equipment was ordered in Japan.
This equipment was installed on November 1, 2004. The scanner was put to use on the same day, which illustrates its urgency.
